Amahl and the Night Visitors at Hartt 2015
Amahl and the Night Visitors is an opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti with an original English libretto by the composer. It was commissioned by NBC and first performed by the NBC Opera Theatre on December 24, 1951, in New York City at NBC studio 8H in Rockefeller Center, where it was broadcast live on television from that venue as the debut production of the Hallmark Hall of Fame. It was the first opera specifically composed for television in America.
SILVAN FRIEDMAN performing the title role of Amahl in "Amahl and the Night Visitors". Musical director: Doris Lang Kosloff. Stage director: Kristy Chambrelli. December 2015, Hartt Opera
An opera in one act, telling the story of a poor young disabled boy and his mother, who are visited by the three kings as they are following the star ....
and an unexpected miracle happens.
Silvan had the honor of joining the vocal students at the Hartt opera for the performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors.
The role of Amahl is meant to be performed by a boy soprano, although often enough, for the lack of one, it is also played by a young woman.
Being already versed in walking with crutches as Tiny Tim - and having just performed the shepherd boy in Tosca, this was the perfect ending to Silvan's year on stage. His house has been filled with opera music for months in preparation for this part, and sometimes him and his real mother start singing to each other instead of talking....

Wonderful memories were made and friendships forged during the 6 weeks Silvan spent at the Hartford Stage, rehearsing and performing in "A Christmas Carol" 2014.
This year he played "Tiny Tim" and was even invited to do interviews on radio and TV - very exciting.
He couldn't wish for a better Christmas experience than being part of this wonderful cast made up from professional actors, Hartt students and child actors like him.
He even got to hang out with the Mayor of Hartford!
